Ballstars NY JUCO Showcase
Big Apple Sports won both of its scrimmages at the Ballstars JUCO Jamboree at Mt. St. Vincent yesterday. Tyrik Tucker, a 6-6 swing, got considerable interest along with Mahamane Toure and Marv Brodie, who hit the game-winning three to beat Bergen CC in the first game.
Jerry Mullens JUCO Blowout
Some 24 Big Apple Sports exposure program participants saw action during the recent Mullens Blowout Showcase in Dallas. . . Especially noteworthy were the programs at Hill (TX) and Western Texas. . . Hill will be counting on Odayne Clarke, Dejuan Williams, Dwight Gist and Davorn Bryant while Western Texas will be utili...zing Keith Spellman, Chad Coachman and Isiah Stokley as part of its deep guard rotation. . .
Nieves Commits to Southern Miss
Anthony Nieves, a 6-4 wing guard from the Bronx (NY), made a verbal commitment today to Southern Mississippi of Conference USA. . . Nieves, now a sophomore at East Central CC in Mississippi, played his freshman year at Southwestern (CA), averaging 14 ppg. in 2008-09. A member of Big Apple Sports / Bedford Y, he starred... at the Ballstars showcase in Baltimore, Maryland in July 2009 and at the Mullens Juco Showcase in Tulsa, Oklahoma this past summer. Nieves, who attended JF Kennedy HS in the Bronx, chose the Golden Eagles over such finalists as Cincinnati, Wright State, UTEP and Hofstra. He is expected to sign his letter-of-intent during the November early signing period.
Big Apple at Hoop Mountain Showcase
Big Apple Sports went 3-0 at the Hoop Mountain NY Showcase. Top performers for Big Apple were Jabari Peters (Grady), Yunus Hopkinson (West 50th), Jon Samuel (Bayside HS) and the Transit Tech duo of Anthony Prescott and Richard Williams. Other standouts during the event held at the Island Garden were: 6-8 Jermaine Lawre...nce (Cardozo), Sherif Wheeler (Baldwin), Ryan Spadaford (Southside) and Dukens German (NJ Columbia).
